Request for information (RFI)

A market-research request for information about capabilities, approaches, pricing practices, or industry conditions; usually not a request for an offer.

How to respond

Answer the questions asked, protect sensitive information appropriately, and make your capabilities easy to evaluate. Do not assume the RFI will lead to a solicitation.

Discovery use

RFIs can be early signals of agency demand. Track the notice identifier and agency so later related opportunities can be recognized.
